Join us on August 11Th at The Palmyra Historic Museum for a night of Ghost Hunting.This hunt includes investigating 5 different buildings and is limited to 20 people at the cost of $60.00. Located at 132 Market Street Palmyra, NY this is a hidden ghost hunting gem. Once again this is a free to roam style of hunt, you are allowed to explore any and all of the buildings at your own pace from 7pm to 1am . Gina and Bob will also be investigating and feel free to join them. Novice ghost hunter no worries we will be there to help and answer all your questions or seasoned ghost hunter who would like to explore on their own. We also will be using of the newest equipment so you will get to see it in action. You truly will have a great time investigating.

The Historical Museum

This former hotel and tavern is the current home of 23 themed rooms of memories and memorabilia, bearing witness to Palmyra’s influence on over 200 years of American history.

Permanent exhibits include local business, government, police and fire service, medicine, education, photography, furnishings, tools, toys, and dolls. Our extensive military, Erie Canal, and Underground Railroad history is told through maps, research materials , and artifacts. You’ll also learn about important local connections to the Civil War, Women’s Suffrage, and the Book of Mormon, and famous folks such as Winston Churchill, Joseph Smith, Admiral Sampson, and Palmyra founder General John Swift.

 

The Alling Coverlet Museum

The Alling features the largest collection of American hand woven coverlets in the United States. It is named for Mrs. Merle Alling, Rochester, New York resident and coverlet collector, and is housed in a 1901 newspaper printing office. All styles of hand woven coverlets from 1820 to 1880 are represented in an extraordinary collection, which takes over six years to rotate through public display. The collection also includes a Quilt Room, looms, spinning wheels, and other assorted weaver’s tools. Avery large Building and a must see..

 

                  The Willam Phelps General store and Home

The museum “where time stands still,” has served the needs of Palmyrans and Erie “Canawlers” as a boarding house, tavern, bakery, and general store since its construction in 1826. Proprietor William Phelps completed renovations to the store by 1875, subsequently left untouched by his son Julius, who locked the doors in 1940, leaving a curious retail time capsule for you and your family to explore. Upstairs you’ll visit the elegant Phelps’ family home with post-Civil War furnishings and Victorian splendor, unspoiled by electricity or indoor plumbing, where Sibyl Phelps resided until her passing in 1976! The haunting presence of the Phelps’ 108 year legacy remains to this day.

The Print Shop

This museum features examples of some of the finest printing equipment ever made.In 1856, John M. Jones arrived in Palmyra and changed the face of the printing industry. For 63 years, Jones’ company produced printing presses and cutters for export around the world via the Erie Canal. Displays include Jones’ equipment marketed under the names:

 

The Erie Canal Depot

The Erie Canal Depot is located in an 1830s tenant house, which features much of its original architecture. Here, you can envision yourself as a passenger on the Erie Canal in the 1800s. You will see original artifacts used for business and travel and receive a ticket for your trip on the first boat launched in Palmyra in 1821, the Myron Holley. Sign the Depot’s manifest to mark your travels along with visitors from all over the world.
